CONNECTING CLIENTS TO MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR CENTS

Makes Cents Newsletter August 2022

It is hard to believe that we are in August already and it has been a few months since you have heard from us, but we have all been working hard getting to the end of the 2021 back log and the 2022 work has now started. It is great to have a full team on board so the communication will continue more regularly.

Communication

The best way to get in contact with us is by email or calling us here in the office on 04 528 6123 or 0800 866 399. If we cannot answer you right away then your query will be passed onto the correct person that can help.

Cost of living payments

The Cost of Living Payment is a payment to help with the rising costs of inflation and you do not have to pay it back if you meet the eligibility criteria.

-If you are eligible for the cost-of-living payment (where your income tax for 31/03/2022 has been assessed), the first payment of $116.67 will be automatically paid into your bank account on anytime now if Inland Revenue have your bank account details.

- If you are potentially eligible and your return has not been finalised by 1 August you would not have received this first payment. Your eligibility will be assessed once the return has been finalised.

- We have until 31 March 2023 to have your return finalised and if eligible you will receive the payment as a lump amount.

2023 Provisional tax payment 1st installment

The first installment for provisional tax payments is due this month on 29 August 2022.

Reminders will be emailed around 10 days prior to this date.

Motor Vehicle Log Book

Do you claim motor vehicle expenses? Have you updated your log book recently?

Everyone needs to keep a log book in order to claim motor vehicle expenses. A log book must be done for 90 days and this will last for three years.

Without an updated log book we may not be able to claim what you are fully entitled to.

IRD have a template you can use for keeping a log book (otherwise there are notebooks that can be purchased)
