Parents should begin saving their Early Childhood Education (ECE) invoices to claim FamilyBoost, a new childcare payment administered by Inland Revenue. Starting in mid-September, parents can register for FamilyBoost through myIR, Inland Revenue's online portal. To claim, they need an IRD number for their child and a myIR account. Claims can be made starting from October for the July–September quarter, with claims every three months thereafter.
Eligibility requires a household income under $180,000, children under 5, costs from a licensed ECE provider, and New Zealand tax residency. Separated parents can both claim if they have childcare costs. FamilyBoost covers 25% of childcare costs, up to $975 every three months, after other subsidies. The amount decreases for households earning over $140,000. For more details click on the button below. |

Every year Round the Bays draws thousands of Kiwis to Auckland’s coastline. This year a handful of our staff participated in the 8.4km race. Our competing staff all participated at their own pace, either running, jogging or walking the full course and taking in the views of the harbour.
After crossing the finish line, we reconvened for a well-deserved lunch and drinks. Well-done to Sarwan, Mark, Nicole, Hannah, Garth, Jacob, Alannah and all those who participated, embracing an active lifestyle in a fun and meaningful way to promote health both in and out of the office. Special congratulations to Jacob with an impressive time of 29 Minutes placing 25 / 22,678 all while running with a pram - what an epic achievement! See you next year. |
Importance of Documenting Intentions |
Inland Revenue have released an interpretation statement dealing with tax treatment of share investments. Income received from the sale of shares acquired for the dominant purpose of disposal is taxable. It is intention at the time of purchase that is important; a subsequent change of purpose does not change the taxable status of the share sale.
As well as looking at objective factors such as the length of time shares have been held and evidence of similar transactions being entered into, Inland Revenue also considers intention as stated by the purchaser. It is recommended that investors keep records to support their purpose for buying shares, including: Background information sourced when deciding between shares to purchase A record of their purpose as at the time of acquisition, with contemporary evidence Notes from financial advisors Information on prospective returns
It can be difficult to prove intention at the time of purchase; contemporary record-keeping helps with this. We also recommend documenting reasons for share sales, and how the sales either (i) aligned with the original purpose as recorded, or (ii) occurred as a result of a change of circumstances.
Please contact us if you would like to discuss any prospective purchases, or if you have any questions in relation to your current portfolio. |
Established in 2006, Pure Distilling is an Australian owned family business that started from humble beginnings in a small workshop in Geelong. We have grown to become one of Australasia’s leading home distilling suppliers, producing the highest quality, lab-tested flavours, yeast, accessories, and equipment that deliver the best results on the market. In a market where everything is made offshore and imported, we pride ourselves in manufacturing locally in New Zealand & Australia and keeping jobs onshore.
Pure Distilling purchased Hauraki Brewing Company in Henderson, Auckland last year where we operate a state-of-the-art flavour and essence laboratory and bottling plant , which produces many bases for the commercial distilling industry. The home distiller (and home brewer with the new expanding BrewMaster range) takes full advantage of this experience, care, and quality control behind everything we produce—from a full range of spirit and liqueur essences and mixes to our yeast range, including speciality blends to cover all brewing and distillation needs.
We want to become the first choice for all things distilling—be it accessories, gin botanicals, or a simple enzyme to make the hobby easier and more fun—so people have the best experience making their spirits and liqueurs, their way!
Being an Australian company coming into the NZ market and purchasing a company that did not have an inventory system for the 2,500 lines that they carried has presented us with huge number of surprises and challenges, the live inventory system has taken us nearly a year to complete, and what is this strange notion that all bills must be paid on a certain day of the month? The staggering sums whirling about in the ether on the 20th every month, the dairies have a lot to answer for, 30-day terms for us please.
Weekly pays, RealME, MPI Excise – Food Import – Export – Registered Devanning, Kiwi Saver, thank god for the Walker Wayland team, (that should be worth a discount on our tax return lodgement).
All in all, apart from the business specific headaches, the changeover and setup have gone very well, government departments and everyone we have asked for assistance have all been very helpful, the people in NZ are a very friendly bunch even if they have a habit of wanting to talk about the poor old Wallabies!
