  • Looking ahead

We are pleased to report that the draft financial statements for all schools we assist were delivered to the auditors before the 31 March deadline.

The process from here is:

  • The auditors are likely to send queries and may request some additional information to be provided. We will endeavour to answer as many of their questions as possible, to keep the disruption for the school to a minimum, but there is likely to be some information that the school will need to provide. Please provide this as soon as you can to keep the audit progressing but if you need any assistance please feel free to contact us.
  • Once the audit has been completed, there may be some adjustments required, which we will action.
  • The updated financial statements will then be sent to the school for signing, along with the Letter of Representation; likely early to mid-May.
  • The signed accounts then need to be returned to the auditors so they can attach their audit opinion.
  • The auditors will then stamp and send the final audited financial statements and the audit opinion to the schools. The audited financial statements, audit opinion, and other compulsory statements need to be grouped into one document for uploading to the Ministry of Education by 31 May 2025.

Change in submission process for annual reports:

From 1 May, the process for submitting your annual report will change. You must now submit your 2024 annual report using the new School Planning and Reporting Application. This system offers a clearer view of the documents you’ve submitted and uses your Education Sector Logon (ESL) for access.

To use the new application, please contact your delegated authoriser to request access. For more information about ESL, how to log in, and accessing the the login, click the buttons below

XERO TIP OF THE MONTH: UPLOAD MULTIPLE BILLS AT ONCE IN XERO

Great news! You can now upload multiple bills at once in Xero.

Instead of uploading bills one by one, the Upload Bills feature lets you select and upload multiple files from your computer—or simply drag and drop them into Xero. This update makes managing large volumes of bills quicker and easier.

To upload multiple bills:

1. In Xero, go to the Bills section.

2. Click the dropdown arrow next to the "New Bill" button and select "Upload Bills."

3. Choose the files from your computer or drag and drop them into the upload window.

4. Click "Upload Files"

FAREWELL TO JO LEIPER

Last Monday, we farewelled Jo Leiper, a valued member of the Accounting for Schools team since 2022.

Over the years, many of you will have had the pleasure of working with Jo and experiencing her approachable manner, professionalism, and genuine commitment to supporting schools. During her time at AFS, Jo took pride in working closely with a number of schools, building strong and lasting relationships along the way.

As Jo embarks on the next chapter of her professional journey, she will be deeply missed by the team—and undoubtedly by many of the schools she has supported throughout the years. We wish you all the best for the road ahead, Jo!

RESOURCE: WORKFORCE INITIATIVE SEARCHER FOR PRINCIPALS (WISP)

We know that teacher recruitment and retention are top priorities for schools and kura. To support you in addressing these challenges, the Ministry of Education has developed the Workforce Initiative Searcher for Principals (WISP)—an easy-to-use online tool designed to connect you with a wide range of funded workforce initiatives.

By simply entering the name of your school into the WISP tool’s search function, you can quickly discover various programmes and resources available to support your recruitment efforts and enhance staff retention.
