CONNECTING CLIENTS TO MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR CENTS

Makes Cents Newsletter November 2022

The year is flying by and Christmas is already here so with that in mind we are closing the office next Friday 11th November 2022 for our staff Christmas function. We are heading into Wellington for lunch and then going to learn how to make some cocktails and hope that goes better for some than when we tried to do it in the office here a couple of months back when ice, gin & lime juice went in all directions when it came time to shake up the cocktail! Bernice is watching the Tom Cruise movie Cocktail for training.

Inland Revenue Activity

As expected, Inland Revenue is upping their activity when it comes to reviewing and auditing tax returns of all types that are lodged with them. We have noticed a marked increase particularly with GST returns that are a refund. A review means we may have to obtain additional information from you and submit it to IRD. This of course incurs extra costs for you and fees that we have to charge to collate and submit the information IRD requires. That is where Audit Shield Accountancy Insurance comes in. For a small fee (usually $200-$600) per annum Audit Shield covers you for our fees that maybe incurred in an IRD review or audit. If you don’t already have Audit Shield or would like some more information then contact us now-

End of Year Records

If you haven’t got your 2022 records to us yet then now is the time to start collating it all and drop it in to the office or better still email it to us so we can start scheduling to get it completed for you.

If you have queries about this or when your work is scheduled, then contact Courtney by email courtney@makescents.co.nz and she will sort any issues for you.

Provisional Tax Reminder Notices

We have now moved to emailing you the reminder notices for Provisional & Terminal tax payments. It means we don’t have to rely on the postal service and can get the notices to you more timely, and we can also email a quick reminder the day before the payments are due. At the moment the letters are not branded with us or IRD but bear with us while we get this sorted with our software providers. For most the next Provisional tax payment is due on the 15th January 2023 so we will get these notices out before Christmas by email and send a reminder email closer to the due date.

Don't forget the office is closed on Friday 11th November 2022
