Leadership Milestone

We’re excited to announce that Kayla Dean has officially stepped into the role of Director, joining Ayla Pene on our leadership team.

Kayla’s journey with the firm began 16 years ago, her passion for the Far North brought her home early in her career, and she completed her degree through correspondence while gaining hands-on experience in the firm.

Over the years, Kayla has built deep relationships with clients, contributed to a strong team culture, and grown into a highly respected leader.

When she’s not at work, Kayla enjoys family life with her two young daughters, along with a love for cooking and travel.

In May, Kayla attended the Leadership Exploration and Development (LEAD) Retreat in Fiji – a unique training experience that brought together emerging leaders from PKF firms across the Asia Pacific region. She’s returned with fresh ideas, new connections, and renewed energy for the path ahead.

Some of her key takeaways included:

  • Connecting with people across the wider PKF network and realising many of us face the same challenges.
  • The power of sharing ideas as a collective and learning from each other’s experiences.
  • Recognising that we can influence real change at this level and bring fresh ideas to the table to benefit our firms and clients.

Please join us in congratulating Kayla on this well-deserved achievement!

The Government’s 2025 Budget focuses on securing New Zealand’s future through economic recovery, investment in essential services, and long-term sustainability. Delivered in a time of global uncertainty, the Budget balances growth with fiscal responsibility.

Key Highlights:

  • Economic Outlook: Return to growth expected, with 240,000 new jobs and reduced government debt over four years.
  • Business Support: New Investment Boost Tax Incentive allows 20% immediate asset deductions to stimulate investment.
  • KiwiSaver Reforms: Gradual increase in contribution rates, expanded eligibility, and targeted government contributions.
  • Cost of Living Relief: Extra support for 142,000 families, SuperGold cardholder rebates, and reduced prescription costs.
  • Health: $7B in operating funding and $1B in capital for hospitals, cancer care, and GP access.

Important Update: Incorporated Societies Act 2022 Now in Effect

Effective 1 April 2025, the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 is now in force. This new legislation brings important changes that affect all incorporated societies in New Zealand.

Re-registration Required

One of the most significant changes is that all societies registered under the 1908 Act must now re-register under the 2022 Act to remain incorporated. The deadline for re-registration is 5 April 2026.

Key Changes to Be Aware Of

  • Constitution
Societies must have a constitution that complies with the new Act.
  • Committee Requirements
New minimum standards apply, including specific duties and eligibility criteria for officers.
  • Membership
The minimum number of members has changed, and each member must now provide consent to be a member.
  • Reporting Obligations
New financial reporting requirements are now in place.
  • Record Keeping
Societies must maintain an up-to-date register of members and other key records.

Walk 50k this May for Incurable Cancer - Our team took on the challenge!

Members of our office took part in the Walk 50k in May challenge, organised by New Zealand charity Sweet Louise!

The goal of the challenge was to raise awareness and funds to support Kiwis living with incurable, advanced breast cancer.

Together here at PKF Far North we raised $3,518 and collectively walked 1051km.

Our efforts contributed to the overall $750,495.31 and 200,000+ kms walked by many participants around New Zealand. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the cause!

School Visits – PKF Stewart Russell Scholarship

Last month, our team visited Kaitaia College to present on careers in accountancy and the services we offer. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with students, share insights into the profession, and introduce them the Stewart Russell Scholarship opportunity designed to support students who want to pursue accountancy / business.

We’re passionate about encouraging the next generation and would love to bring this presentation to more schools. If your school is interested in hosting a session or learning more about the Stewart Russell Scholarship, please get in touch — we’d be thrilled to collaborate!

Our team had an awesome offsite planning day on April 17. It was great to take a break from our usual work and brainstorm about the future of our firm.

We had some fantastic discussions and came up with exciting goals and plans for the year ahead. The energy was amazing, and we're pumped about what's coming next. Stay tuned for more updates as we move forward together!
