Thank you to those of you who took the time to respond to our survey. By now, you should have received an invitation to our upcoming group training session scheduled for Wednesday, 30 August 2023.

This training session presents an excellent opportunity for you to upskill in Xero, master the art of building custom reports, and receive invaluable assistance with cyclical maintenance, fixed assets, budgeting, and much more!

We understand that not everyone will be able to attend the session in person, so we will be recording the session and making it available to everyone at a later date. This way, you can still benefit from the valuable content and insights shared during the session.

To reserve your seat at our training session, simply click on the registration button below.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

Audit: Recording Personal Detail Change Requests

Schools are now required to, upon request, provide Auditor(s) a list of Personal Detail Change instructions received and processed throughout the year. This information had previously been available through EdPay, but this is no longer the case and the 'responsibility' to record such requests falls on the school.

If you are using Payroll Toolkit, this can be done easily. To access a quick 2-minute video on how to record requests to change personal details, simply click on the button below.

HEADS UP: 2024 ANNUAL BUDGET

It's time to start thinking about your 2024 annual budget!

As in previous years, we will be preparing the budget templates once the Ministry has provided the provisional entitlement letters.

Following this, a special Budget Chalkboard will be sent, which will provide further information about how to complete it, including the additional wages calculations.

If you are not one of the schools we generally assist around the budget, but would like us to prepare a Budget Template report for your School, please contact Allison Henderson via admin@afsl.nz.

EXCISE TAX REFUNDS

Im an image

On Tuesday, August 15, you may have received an email from NZ Petrol Tax Refunds, a tax refund company. This email was centered around potential unclaimed excise duty refunds for the petrol used in the upkeep of school grounds.

Here's what you need to know:

  • The standard procedure for obtaining a refund involves submitting an application through NZTA, which can be done quarterly.
  • NZ Petrol Refunds is a tax refund company that specializes in claims processing; however, this service does come with an associated fee.
  • The eligible petrol expenses are limited to plant and machinery only, i.e. lawnmowers. Expenses related to vehicles driven on roads do not qualify. As a result, the rebate value is likely to be relatively modest.

If your school is considering submitting a claim, it is essential to take into account the time investment required to complete the rebate application, as it may be quite intricate. This should be balanced against the anticipated rebate amount.

If you would like to discuss this further, or if you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact us at 04 909 7729. Our team is here to provide assistance.

Lastly, we would like to emphasize the importance of exercising caution when encountering unfamiliar emails. It is essential to refrain from clicking on any links included in such emails, as they could potentially be fraudulent.
