Employment Leave Act: the impact for annual and sick leave entitlements

The Act will come into force from August 2028, with the new legislation delivering an updated approach to employment leave entitlement. The main changes to annual and sick leave entitlements The Employment Leave Act replaces the existing Holidays Act 2003, ushering in a new set of rules for calculating your employees’ annual and sick leave entitlements. The key aim is to switch leave entitlement to an hours-based accrual system. This will make it easier for businesses to administer and for employees to understand their leave entitlements.
